A true entertainer at heart, he was also a member of The International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM), where he honed his craft in magic and delighted many with balloon animals and clowning for over a decade.

Victor Cohn has passed. He lived most of last year with family in Australia. He was in a very weakened state from a fall last week. I have known Victor Cohn for many years. He was a very generous and giving person, he was also a good friend.

Mark passed away peacefully late April from complications due to pneumonia after ten years of enduring a rare and physically debilating condition known as Locked-in-Syndrome. In his early years he became a skilled judoka at Gardena Valley Judo Club and later a varsity wrestler for South HS in Torrance. Then still in his teens he developed a cancerous brain tumor which was successfully treated while he was still attending UC Irvine. After graduating, Mark taught middle school math and science. During this time he did many things and made many friends. He studied magic, performing at parties and became a member of the famous Magic Castle. He loved food, cooking, comics, anime, movies, and Japanese culture. Mark was also a church goer, special camps leader, jokester, and fart master. He made us laugh. He made us cry. Then at age 41 misfortune set in again, which made him completely disabled (Locked-in-Syndrome) where he could not walk, talk, or eat normally. His only communication with everyone was through his eyes and head movement and an eye-tracking computer. Mark finally passed away then years later, after medical and nursing care at various facilities in the LA and OC area. May he rest in peace

Scott Boeger, born April 6, 1946, died on Feb. 28. He was born in Bellwood, Illinois, the son of Gilbert and Marie

Boeger.

He is sur- vived by his fiancé, Potsy Frank; daughters Sally (Doug) and Sandy (John); grandsons Donny and Cooper; and greatgrandson Jesse.

After moving to California, Scott explored a variety of jobs, including being a meter reader in Laguna Beach, a bus driver and an accountant. He bought King Arthur’s Pub in Westminster and developed a loyal clientele by sponsoring darts, cribbage games and tournaments.

Scott moved to Leisure World in 2003 and was a member of the RV Club and the Cribbage Club. Upon retirement, he devoted his time to his real passion: magic.

Scott was a member of several area magic clubs and won many awards and trophies in magic competitions. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his corny one-liners, and his generosity in teaching and supporting other magicians. His mentoring of many magicians resulted in their going on to win major awards themselves.

Dear Friends:
It is my sad duty to tell you that at 10:15 am on Saturday the 21st of March, my father, Walter Richard Shafer, known to many as Dick, Fuz or the Captain, died after a brief illness. My Mother Joanne, known to most as Jo or Muz, was with him as he passed. Also with him was my bother, Robert. Many of his family wished we could have been there at his side but were unable due to the necessary restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 crisis.

He is survived by son Richard, his wife Gwen and child Robert; son John, his wife Evelyn and their children Sydney and Mallory; son Robert, his wife Beth and their children Chris, Meghan, and Michael; and daughter Beth, her husband Pete and their children Ian and Calum. In addition, he is survived by the family of his German exchange daughter, Tanja and her husband Stefan, and children Jannek and Torben.

Fuz asked that he be remembered and his life celebrated with an appropriate event at a future date when we all can gather in safety. Plans for a more formal memorial service are also in the works. We will inform everyone of both these events when we have a more definite time and place.

Shortly before his death, Fuz was able to join his extended family for a group teleconference. All of his children and their spouses, his grandchildren and his wife were able to see and speak to him. Despite his weakness, he was able to share this last meeting with the 17 people in the world who love him the most. He was a remarkable husband, father, brother, leader and friend. The world will truly be a poorer place for his absence, but he leaves behind an abundance of love and legacy that any person would envy.
